ESL teacher job duties and responsibilities


As a teacher of English as a second or foreign language, you'd usually be expected to:

- Plan, prepare and deliver lessons to students in a range of classes (teaching small groups and one-to-one) and age groups;

- Prepare classroom and coursework materials, homework assignments, and handouts;

- Prepare and set tests, examination papers and exercises;

- Mark and provide appropriate feedback on oral and written work;

- Maintain records of student attendance, grades and overall progress;

- Devise, write and produce new study materials, including audio and visual resources;

- Attend and contribute to training sessions;

- Create a supportive and positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning;

- Assist students with educational goals, guide them on learning skills and help develop study habits;

- Prepare and submit regular reports;
